It depends on the type of building. As a guide, most offices and shops are tested every 5 years, and industrial units and warehouses every 3 years. Some higher-risk premises, such as swimming pools, need testing more often. Your last report, your insurer or your fire risk assessment may also set a date, and that is the one to follow.
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require employers and building owners to keep electrical installations safe. An EICR is the accepted way to show you are doing that, and most insurers, landlords and fire risk assessors will ask to see a current one.
Some circuits have to be switched off while they are tested, but we work through them one at a time and plan the order with you first, so things like IT, tills, fridges and lifts are not lost at the wrong moment. Where that is not workable, we can test early mornings, evenings or at weekends.
It depends on the size of the building and the number of distribution boards and circuits. A small office or shop can often be done in a day, while larger sites can take several days. We will give you a timescale with your quote once we know a little about the building.
The report lists any faults with a code: C1 (danger present), C2 (potentially dangerous) or FI (further investigation needed). We quote separately for any remedial work, carry it out, and give you the paperwork to show it has been put right. Read more about unsatisfactory EICRs.

Tell us the type of building, roughly how big it is and how many distribution boards it has, and we'll come back with a fixed price and a date that suits you.
